Happy Thursday! It’s August already! And you know what that means…heat, humidity, back to school, and, of course, the Indiana State Fair! Only at the Fair will you find such delectible delights as Deep Fried Pepsi, Deep Fried Pizza, Deep Fried Oreos, Deep Fried Pickles, juicy Lemon Shakeups, Hot Dogs on a Stick, and other fair favorites like Funnel Cakes and hot, buttery Corn on the Cob. Yum! A few days ago, I joined my fellow photography colleagues there for awhile to see what we could find. Here are some of the photos I captured…4 of which have been entered in a friendly competition for the following categories: 1-People & Animals, 2-Action!, 3-Food & Drink, 4-Creative. At this point, I am not at liberty to say which photos were submitted…but the results will be announced in 2 weeks, so wish me luck! Leave a comment to let me know which ones you like the best! Now on to the Fair we go!

Let’s Go to the Indiana State Fair!

Thunder, lightning, bits of hail, buckets of fat, wet drops. It’s been raining all day long. Although my original plans for today had to be rescheduled, I did get to drive around a little with my husband. We saw several trees down, some of which had landed on their owner’s homes. Traffic lights were out. Branches and leaves were scattered on the streets. We counted our blessings as we made our way to our destination. Here are just a few images to hopefully bring the sun and light back soon!

I’ve driven by this area countless times. I’ve made mental notes telling myself to just go there. So a few days ago, I went! If you never visited the Indiana War Memorial, I highly recommend it. It’s a beautiful, quiet area nestled just north of Monument Circle. The flag flies high, soldiers and veterans are honored. Fountains and statues and grand monuments decorate the promenade. Benches are placed every so often so you can relax, enjoy the view, and reflect on what a great country we live in. What a perfect place to take a stroll on a sunny day…especially with a camera! I devised a scavenger hunt of sorts to challenge myself and my fellow photography colleagues to search for details here, to carefully study the surroundings, and see something different. We focused on concepts such as line, color, shape, texture, pattern, symmetry, and more. Here are some of my favorites. Please leave a comment to let me know your favorite!

Lola has been a little jealous lately that she has not been featured on the blog for awhile…so, Lola, here you go! I think she just wanted an excuse to be photographed for her upcoming 4th birthday…just a hunch!

I thought some flowers would give her something to focus on…

…and it worked like a charm!

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! I enjoyed some time with my camera on Saturday morning as part of the Worldwide Photo Walk. The leader of our group chose the Canal downtown Indianapolis as our venue. So for two hours, we were on our own to find some photo opportunities. Each participant can submit 2 photos in hopes of winning prizes like brand new cameras, photography books, and more. Wish me luck! I’ll be competing with hundreds of thousands of people from around the world, from Paris to New Zealand. Leave a comment with the titles of your favorites and help me decide which 2 photos I should submit before July 25th! Thank you for your help!
