Winter Wonderland // January 2026

s

We stumbled upon some weather videos on YouTube mentioning a big snowstorm.  Do you watch Ryan Hall, y’all?  IYKYK.  In the days leading up to the weekend, we wondered if Remington and Emerson’s hockey games would still take place in Ohio.  The areas we would be traveling to were expecting 10″-14″ of snow!  As it turns out, Emerson’s games in Oxford were still on, because they were both to be played in the morning at 7:30am and 10am.  His team won 9-0 and 1-0!  Let’s goooo!  Remington’s games ended up being cancelled, and, hopefully can be rescheduled at a later date.  By the time Reggie and Emerson returned home in the early afternoon, tiny snowflakes started to fly.  We ran a few errands, and by 5pm, we had a layer of snow on the ground.  I think we ended up with 9″ or so.  If you live here in Central Indiana, you know it was COLD!  Reggie had quite a task of snow removal from our driveway.  I shoveled our patio, and by the time I was finished making 2 huge piles off to the sides, another inch had covered what I cleared!  The boys bundled up in layers and snow gear.  They were on a mission!  A mission to see if the creek that runs through our property had frozen enough to play hockey, of course!  Good news: it was definitely on its way to freezing!  Remington was able to skate on what had already frozen, plus a few inches of slush on top. This small area of the creek is super shallow.  With the cold temperatures, it was sure to freeze solid by the next day.  And it did just that!  They skated for hours over the next few days on our little ODR (outdoor rink), practicing stick handling, hockey stops, and, of course, cellys (the celebration after scoring a goal).  I am certain that this time will definitely be part of their core childhood memories!  I know it will definitely stick with me!
